City Park will be an exemplar building in the South East. It will be built to an exceptional level of sustainability and protect and enhance the existing biodiversity of the site. It will show how buildings should be adapted to cope with the changing climate and to minimise the
heat island effect.
City Park is a new build site consisting of 7 low level residential units currently waiting for planning permission. It is proposed for a vacant site next door to Hove Park, flanked on each side by new blocks of flats primarily three storeys high overlooking the site. The previous building on the site has been demolished.
The scale, style and sustainability of the site were key considerations in the design. The scheme is largely single storey, particularly adjacent to the existing blocks. A curved chalk grassland green roof has been used to link the single and smaller double storey elements in a sympathetic and organic form reflecting the green site currently overlooked by the surrounding accommodation in its parkland setting. Green walls cover a high percentage of the total wall area. The proposed building provides 2 one bed units and 5 two bed units of between 62 and 83 m2.
The units will be low energy built to The Code for Sustainable Homes level 5 and to Lifetime Homes Standards. They will offer occupants an opportunity to live a low impact lifestyle alongside nature in the City of Brighton and Hove.
